As far as quakelive defrag? SUUUUPPPPEEERRRR limited unfortunately... basically, what you see is what you get. Although, there are ways to import some custom maps and play them in single player. This is a pretty tricky process because when me and my buddies(some friends in ROTN) tried this, it actually screwed up our games fairly good in every other mod.
Examples: Rockets exploded into giant grey squares rather then the actual animation of it blowing up.
Jump pads appeared just as random grey squares.
Basically it messed with the textures/graphics a bit.
Other then that, I play do a lot of defrag itself (from q3a) and thats got a decent community around it. If you want I can find the link on the ROTN forums that gives you a rundown of how to install these things (at your own risk).
Then as far as just jumping around goes in quakelive, for VQL I love love love love love Troubled Waters, greatest CTF map to practice jumps on. When it comes to PQL(the hated younger brother) I just love jumping around on Overlord, Silent Fright, Theater of Pain, and Black Cathedral.

Thanks man, sounds like q3 is the only way to go and I don't think I'll be installing that one again. I'll just sit in misery and distaste while ID refuses to raise quakelive to it's potential or even to par. /jump around the maps they have
p.s. If you don't know me I've grown to be very grumpy about quake :p
